Inner Journeys and Outer Bonds….what’s it all about?

The Curriculum Vision for the 2024-2025 School Year: Inner Journeys & Outer Bonds

At Right Moves For Youth, we are excited to unveil the vision for our 2024-2025 school year curriculum: Inner Journeys & Outer Bonds: A Guide to Merging Educational Excellence, Emotional Intelligence & Civic Leadership. This year’s theme is designed to inspire students to explore their personal growth, build strong community connections, and develop leadership skills. Our curriculum is crafted with intention, focusing on helping young people achieve their highest potential by reducing risk factors and guiding them toward positive outcomes.

Inner Journeys & Outer Bonds is a group-level youth development curriculum rooted in the Possible Selves Theory. This theory highlights the significance of role models, self-exploration, and envisioning one’s future self as tools for personal motivation and change. According to Markus and Nurius (1986), the “possible selves” framework plays a vital role in both self-evaluation and motivation. It allows students to assess their current state by comparing it to their desired future selves, creating a clear path for personal growth. When young people understand what they can become—whether through role models or the avoidance of negative influences—they are more likely to make choices that align with their goals.

This year’s curriculum not only equips students on their academic journey but also encourages emotional intelligence and civic leadership. By helping students envision their “possible selves,” we aim to create a space where they feel empowered to chase their dreams and avoid paths that don’t serve their long-term vision. Our curriculum provides practical strategies to set and achieve goals, helping students navigate their inner journeys while fostering the outer bonds that connect them to their communities.

Through Inner Journeys & Outer Bonds, we are dedicated to guiding our students toward a future filled with possibilities—educationally, emotionally, and civically. Together, we can help them explore who they are, who they want to be, and how they can impact the world around them.
