Right Moves For Youth Awarded $150,000 Grant from NBA Foundation/Charlotte Hornets
Right Moves For Youth is thrilled to announce it is a recipient of a $150,000 one-year grant from the NBA Foundation and the Charlotte Hornets. As one of the 82 organizations in the NBA Foundation’s 14th cohort, Right Moves For Youth is the only grantee in the Charlotte Hornets market.
“We are excited to have Right Moves for Youth join the network of esteemed organizations supported by the NBA Foundation in our latest grant round,” said NBA Foundation Executive Director Ruth Jurgensen. “We’re proud to work with them on supporting youth throughout Charlotte.” In 2020, the NBA Foundation pledged to give away $300M to under-resourced youth.
Right Moves For Youth has a long history with the Charlotte Hornets as the organization was founded when students were skipping class to play basketball at Marie G. Davis Elementary School in the 1980s. In 2019, Right Moves For Youth was named LeBron James’s charity for the All-Star game in Charlotte. Basketball is part of the fabric of our organization as we provide youth opportunities they enjoy, like basketball, as a reward to making positive choices and improving academically.
“We’re thrilled to see Right Moves For Youth receive this well-deserved recognition from the NBA Foundation,” said Betsy Mack, Vice President of Corporate Social Responsibility for Hornets Sports & Entertainment and Executive Director of the Charlotte Hornets Foundation. “Their commitment to mentoring and supporting students in our community is powerful and deeply impactful. We’re proud to stand alongside them and celebrate this investment, which will help expand their reach and continue building brighter futures for the young people they serve.”
This grant will help support Right Moves For Youth to serve 20 middle and high schools across Charlotte Mecklenburg and 900+ youth over one year. “This $150,000 grant from The NBA Foundation is a game-changer for Right Moves For Youth. It empowers us to expand our impact, providing under-resourced youth with the mentorship, skills, and opportunities they need to succeed. This investment fuels our mission to help students build bright futures, and we are incredibly grateful for The NBA Foundation’s support in making that possible.” – Ryan Grammatico, Executive Director, Right Moves For Youth
