NFL Player Partners w/RMFY
The holiday season was made a little brighter for local youth, including Right Moves for Youth (RMFY) students, thanks to Washington Redskins football player and Charlotte native Adonis Alexander.
On Friday, December 21, 2018, 11 RMFY students and 5 students from other organizations, participated in a holiday shopping spree, organized by RMFY co-founder and retired police sergeant Dave Scheppegrell. The students enjoyed breakfast from Chic-fil-A, lunch at Red Rocks, and shopped for clothing, shoes, and athletic wear at Nike, Lids, and Kohl’s. Among those who donated funds to help provide youth with this incredible opportunity was Alexander.
“I have a great family, but I know through experience it takes a village to keep young people on track to achieve success,” said Alexander, an Independence High School football standout. “It feels really good to give back to my hometown!”
RMFY provides school-based youth development and support services to approximately 1,600 middle and high school students in Charlotte-Mecklenburg each year. Students are expected to earn good grades, attend class regularly, and exhibit positive behavior. When they do, students are allowed to participate in incentive activities like the holiday shopping spree. For many RMFY youth, the shopping event may be the only gifts they receive this holiday season.
“Right Moves for Youth is thankful to our co-founder Dave Scheppegrell for organizing this event and working with our community partners,” said Tayuanee Dewberry, Executive Director. “We are grateful to Adonis Alexander and his partnership with Right Moves for Youth. Because of his generosity, youth in our community will know someone cared enough to make sure that they had a memorable holiday season.”
